Dinoprostone

Dinoprostone is a synthetic preparation of the naturally occurring prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). It works by stimulating the myometrium of the pregnant uterus to contract, mimicking labor, and by acting on the cervix to cause softening, effacement, and dilation.

Dosage by Body Weight

Strictly administered by healthcare professionals in a hospital setting. Vaginal insert: 10 mg (releases ~0.3 mg/hr over 12 hours). Vaginal gel: 0.5 mg endocervically. Vaginal suppository: 20 mg repeated every 3 to 5 hours for pregnancy termination. Not indicated for pediatric use.
