Oxytocin

Oxytocin is a synthetic analog of the natural posterior pituitary hormone. It selectively stimulates the smooth muscle of the uterus to contract, mimicking the normal pattern of spontaneous labor. It is also used post-delivery to facilitate uterine contraction, reducing postpartum bleeding.

Dosage by Body Weight

Must be administered strictly under medical supervision in a hospital setting. For labor induction, it is administered via slow intravenous infusion titrated using an infusion pump. For postpartum hemorrhage, it can be administered intramuscularly or intravenously.
