Prepidil

Prepidil is a local endocervical gel containing dinoprostone, a naturally occurring prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). It is used to prepare, soften, and dilate (ripen) the cervix prior to the induction of labor in pregnant women at or near term.

Dosage by Body Weight

Administered strictly by a healthcare professional in a hospital setting. The standard dose is 0.5 mg (one syringe of 2.5 mL gel) inserted into the cervical canal. If there is insufficient cervical response, a repeat dose of 0.5 mg can be administered after 6 hours, up to a maximum of 1.5 mg (3 doses) within a 24-hour period.
