Lamisil
Lamisil contains terbinafine, an allylamine antifungal agent. It works by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase in the fungal cell membrane, leading to squalene accumulation and ergosterol deficiency, which causes fungal cell death. Oral Lamisil is primarily used for systemic nail infections, while topical forms are used for superficial skin infections.
Dosage by Body Weight
For topical formulations, apply to the affected area once or twice daily for 1 to 2 weeks. For oral tablets, the standard adult dose is 250 mg once daily for 6 weeks (fingernail tinea) or 12 weeks (toenail tinea). Pediatric oral dosage must be determined by a physician based on body weight.
