GlucaGen

GlucaGen contains recombinant human glucagon, a hormone that raises blood glucose levels by accelerating hepatic glycogenolysis (the breakdown of glycogen to glucose in the liver). It is used as a critical rescue medication when a person with diabetes has a severe low blood sugar event and is unable to consume sugar orally.

Dosage by Body Weight

Administered subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously. The standard dose is 1 mg for adults and children weighing 25 kg or more. For pediatric patients weighing less than 25 kg, the dose is 0.5 mg. Turn the patient on their side to prevent choking if vomiting occurs, and seek immediate emergency medical care after injecting.
