Bromocriptine
Bromocriptine is a dopamine receptor agonist and ergot derivative. It works by decreasing the amount of prolactin released by the pituitary gland and by stimulating dopamine receptors in the brain to help control movement in Parkinson's disease. It also helps regulate blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes through hypothalamic mechanisms.
Dosage by Body Weight
Bromocriptine should always be taken with food to minimize side effects like nausea and dizziness. Dosages are highly individualized and must be titrated slowly starting from a low dose (typically 1.25 mg to 2.5 mg daily) under strict medical supervision.
