Timolet
Timolet is an ophthalmic formulation of Timolol, a non-selective beta-blocker. It works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor (fluid in the eye), which effectively reduces elevated intraocular pressure. This helps prevent progressive optic nerve damage and vision loss associated with glaucoma.
Dosage by Body Weight
The standard adult dose is one drop of 0.25% or 0.5% Timolet in the affected eye(s) once or twice daily. Nasolacrimal occlusion (pressing the corner of the eye near the nose for 1-2 minutes after instillation) is recommended to reduce systemic absorption and side effects.
- Body Weight
- Below 5 kg
- Dose
- Not recommended
- Frequency
- Use only if explicitly prescribed by a pediatric ophthalmologist
- Tracking Notes
- Risk of systemic absorption leading to severe bradycardia or bronchospasm in infants. Safety and efficacy are not established.
- Body Weight
- 5-7 kg
- Dose
- Not routinely dosed by weight
- Frequency
- As directed by a specialist
- Tracking Notes
- Monitor heart rate and breathing closely for systemic beta-blocker side effects if used.
- Body Weight
- 8-10 kg
- Dose
- Not routinely dosed by weight
- Frequency
- As directed by a specialist
- Tracking Notes
- Ophthalmic drops are absorbed systemically; use lowest effective concentration.
- Body Weight
- 11-15 kg
- Dose
- Not routinely dosed by weight
- Frequency
- As directed by a specialist
- Tracking Notes
- Nasolacrimal occlusion should be performed to minimize systemic absorption in children.
- Body Weight
- 16-20 kg
- Dose
- Not routinely dosed by weight
- Frequency
- As directed by a specialist
- Tracking Notes
- Strict medical supervision is required for pediatric use.
