Sandostatin LAR is a long-acting release formulation of octreotide, an octapeptide analog of naturally occurring somatostatin. It exerts similar pharmacologic actions but is a much more potent inhibitor of growth hormone, glucagon, insulin, and various gastroenteropancreatic endocrine secretions.
