Vitamin K Injection

Vitamin K injection contains phytonadione (vitamin K1), which is essential for the liver to synthesize blood clotting factors II (prothrombin), VII, IX, and X. It is a critical, life-saving medication routinely given to newborn infants to prevent severe, spontaneous bleeding.

Dosage by Body Weight

For newborn prophylaxis, a single intramuscular (IM) dose of 0.5 mg to 1 mg is given within 1 hour of birth. For older children and adults, dosing is highly individualized based on the indication, severity of bleeding, and coagulation parameters (PT/INR). Must be administered by a healthcare professional.
