Octagam
Octagam is a sterile, liquid preparation of highly purified immunoglobulin G (IgG) obtained from large pools of human donor plasma. It contains broad-spectrum antibodies against infectious agents, providing passive immunization and immunomodulatory effects when administered intravenously.
Dosage by Body Weight
Dosage must be individualized based on the specific indication, patient's body weight, and clinical response. Typically administered intravenously starting at a slow infusion rate, which can be gradually increased if tolerated. Adequate hydration prior to infusion is essential.
- Body Weight
- Below 5 kg
- Dose
- 0.2 to 0.8 g/kg body weight (approx. 1 to 4 g total)
- Frequency
- Every 3 to 4 weeks for PI; or daily for 2 to 5 days for ITP
- Tracking Notes
- Strictly calculated based on exact body weight in kilograms. Monitor vital signs and infusion rate very closely.
- Body Weight
- 5-7 kg
- Dose
- 1.0 to 5.6 g total dose (based on 200-800 mg/kg)
- Frequency
- Every 3 to 4 weeks for PI; or as clinically indicated
- Tracking Notes
- Infuse slowly at the recommended initial rate. Adjust dose based on clinical response and pre-infusion IgG trough levels.
- Body Weight
- 8-10 kg
- Dose
- 1.6 to 8.0 g total dose (based on 200-800 mg/kg)
- Frequency
- Every 3 to 4 weeks for PI; or as clinically indicated
- Tracking Notes
- Ensure patient is well-hydrated before starting the infusion to reduce the risk of renal complications.
- Body Weight
- 11-15 kg
- Dose
- 2.2 to 12.0 g total dose (based on 200-800 mg/kg)
- Frequency
- Every 3 to 4 weeks for PI; or as clinically indicated
- Tracking Notes
- Doses up to 2 g/kg may be given over 2 to 5 days for immunomodulation indications like ITP.
- Body Weight
- 16-20 kg
- Dose
- 3.2 to 16.0 g total dose (based on 200-800 mg/kg)
- Frequency
- Every 3 to 4 weeks for PI; or as clinically indicated
- Tracking Notes
- Monitor renal function, urine output, and blood viscosity during and after administration.
