Noctec

Noctec is a brand name for chloral hydrate, a sedative-hypnotic agent used primarily for short-term sedation and sleep induction. It is a Schedule IV controlled substance due to potential for abuse, physical dependence, and tolerance. Because of its narrow therapeutic index and the availability of safer alternatives, Noctec has been largely discontinued or restricted in many countries.

Dosage by Body Weight

Adult insomnia: Typical dose is 500 mg to 1000 mg taken 15 to 30 minutes before bedtime. Adult sedation: 250 mg three times daily after meals. Pediatric sedation: 25 mg to 50 mg per kg of body weight as a single dose, up to a maximum of 1000 mg per dose. Syrup forms should be diluted with water or fruit juice to prevent stomach upset.
