Malirid
Malirid contains Primaquine, an antimalarial medication used to eliminate the dormant liver forms (hypnozoites) of Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium ovale, preventing relapse. It is also used to destroy gametocytes of Plasmodium falciparum to limit transmission. Because of the risk of severe hemolytic anemia, G6PD deficiency testing is essential before initiating therapy.
Dosage by Body Weight
The standard adult dose is 15 mg once daily for 14 days, taken with food to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Dosage should be strictly determined by a physician. Primaquine is contraindicated in pregnant women, lactating mothers of infants with unknown G6PD status, and individuals with severe G6PD deficiency.
