Glumetza

Glumetza is an extended-release formulation of metformin hydrochloride, an oral biguanide antihyperglycemic agent. It works by decreasing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity.

Dosage by Body Weight

The recommended starting dose of Glumetza is 500 mg or 1000 mg taken orally once daily with the evening meal. The dosage should be escalated in increments of 500 mg weekly based on clinical response and tolerability, up to a maximum dose of 2000 mg once daily. Tablets must be swallowed whole and never crushed, chewed, or split.
