Fortamet

Fortamet is an extended-release oral formulation of metformin hydrochloride, an antihyperglycemic medication used to manage blood sugar levels. It works by reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and increasing insulin sensitivity.

Dosage by Body Weight

The standard starting dose for adults is 1000 mg taken orally once daily with the evening meal. The dose may be adjusted weekly in increments of 500 mg based on glycemic control and tolerability, up to a maximum daily dose of 2500 mg.
