CellCept

CellCept is a potent immunosuppressant medication. It is a prodrug of mycophenolic acid (MPA), which inhibits the enzyme inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH). This inhibition blocks the de novo pathway of guanosine nucleotide synthesis, which is indispensable for the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes.

Dosage by Body Weight

The standard adult dose for kidney transplant is 1 g orally or IV twice daily (2 g/day). For heart and liver transplants, the recommended dose is 1.5 g orally or IV twice daily (3 g/day). Pediatric dosing is strictly calculated based on Body Surface Area (BSA), typically 600 mg/m2 per dose twice daily.

  1. Body Weight
    Below 5 kg
    Dose
    Not routine
    Frequency
    Use only if prescribed
    Tracking Notes
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 3 months of age have not been established. Highly specialized dosing required.
  2. Body Weight
    5-7 kg
    Dose
    BSA-dependent
    Frequency
    Twice daily
    Tracking Notes
Must be calculated using Body Surface Area (typically 600 mg/m² per dose). Do not dose by weight alone.
  3. Body Weight
    8-10 kg
    Dose
    BSA-dependent
    Frequency
    Twice daily
    Tracking Notes
Requires liquid oral suspension. Must be prescribed and adjusted by a transplant specialist based on BSA and blood levels.
  4. Body Weight
    11-15 kg
    Dose
    BSA-dependent
    Frequency
    Twice daily
    Tracking Notes
Pediatric dosing requires close monitoring of blood counts and drug therapeutic levels.
  5. Body Weight
    16-20 kg
    Dose
    BSA-dependent
    Frequency
    Twice daily
    Tracking Notes
Usually administered as an oral suspension. Capsules or tablets should not be opened, crushed, or chewed.
