Quinagolide
Quinagolide is a selective dopamine D2 receptor agonist. Unlike older dopamine agonists like bromocriptine, it is a non-ergot derivative. It is used to lower elevated levels of prolactin (hyperprolactinemia) in the blood, which helps restore normal menstrual cycles, resolve fertility issues, and shrink prolactin-secreting pituitary tumors.
Dosage by Body Weight
Standard starting dose is 25 micrograms daily for the first 3 days, increased to 50 micrograms daily for the next 3 days. From day 7, the recommended dose is 75 micrograms daily. Doses are taken once daily at bedtime with food. Dose adjustments should be guided by a physician based on therapeutic response and tolerability.
