Imipramine

Imipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) that works by inhibiting the reuptake of neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine in the central nervous system. It also exhibits significant anticholinergic activity, which contributes to its utility in managing nocturnal enuresis.

Dosage by Body Weight

For depression in adults, the typical starting dose is 75 mg daily in divided doses, titrated up to 150-200 mg daily as tolerated. For nocturnal enuresis in children aged 6 and older, the typical dose is 25 mg taken 1 hour before bedtime; if no response is seen within a week, it may be increased to 50 mg (for children under 12 years) or 75 mg (for children 12 years and older).
