Vardenafil

Vardenafil is an oral medication belonging to the class of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles of the blood vessels in the penis, allowing increased blood flow to facilitate an erection during sexual stimulation. It does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases or increase libido.

Dosage by Body Weight

The standard starting dose for adult men is 10 mg taken orally as needed, approximately 60 minutes before sexual activity. Based on efficacy and tolerability, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg. The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once daily. Note that orally disintegrating tablets (Staxyn) are not bioequivalent to film-coated tablets and are taken at a fixed 10 mg dose without water. Contraindicated with nitrates or guanylate cyclase stimulators.
