Sogilen

Sogilen is a brand formulation of Cabergoline, an ergot derivative that acts as a potent and long-acting dopamine receptor agonist with high affinity for D2 receptors. By stimulating these receptors in the pituitary gland, it inhibits prolactin secretion. It also interacts with dopamine receptors in the corpus striatum to treat signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

Dosage by Body Weight

For hyperprolactinemia, the recommended initial dosage is 0.5 mg per week given in one or two doses, which may be increased gradually based on prolactin levels. For Parkinson's disease, the initiation dose is typically 1 mg daily. It should be taken with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
