Rid

Rid is an over-the-counter topical pediculicide containing pyrethrins and piperonyl butoxide. Pyrethrins attack the nervous system of live lice, while piperonyl butoxide enhances their effectiveness by preventing the breakdown of pyrethrins in the insect's body. It requires a second application 7 to 10 days later to kill any newly hatched lice.

Dosage by Body Weight

Apply to dry hair or affected area until completely wet. Leave on for exactly 10 minutes, then add warm water, work into a lather, and rinse thoroughly. Use a fine-tooth nit comb to remove dead lice and eggs. A second treatment must be applied 7 to 10 days later to kill newly hatched lice. Do not use on children under 2 years of age without a doctor's advice.
