MS Contin

MS Contin is a strong prescription pain medicine containing morphine, an opioid agonist. It is designed to release morphine slowly over an 8 to 12 hour period. Due to the high risk of addiction, abuse, misuse, and life-threatening respiratory depression, it is reserved for severe, chronic pain management that cannot be treated with other medications.

Dosage by Body Weight

Dosage must be highly individualized by a physician. Tablets must be swallowed whole. Crushing, chewing, dissolving, or breaking the tablets will cause rapid release of morphine, which can lead to a fatal overdose. This medication is not intended for as-needed (PRN) pain relief.
