Hydrocortisone Valerate

Hydrocortisone valerate is a medium-potency topical corticosteroid. It functions by suppressing inflammatory responses, reducing blood vessel dilation, and alleviating itching and swelling associated with various skin disorders.

Dosage by Body Weight

Apply a thin film of the cream or ointment to the affected areas 2 to 3 times daily, rubbing in gently. Avoid contact with eyes and do not cover with occlusive dressings (bandages, diapers, or plastic pants) unless specifically directed by a healthcare provider. Discontinue once the inflammatory condition is under control.

    Below 5 kg
    Dose
    Not routine

Infants have a higher ratio of skin surface area to body mass, making them highly susceptible to systemic steroid absorption and toxicity. Avoid use unless explicitly directed by a pediatrician.
  2. Body Weight
    5-7 kg
    Dose
    Thin layer to affected area
    Frequency
    1 to 2 times daily

Use the absolute minimum amount necessary for the shortest possible duration. Do not apply to diaper area if occlusive.
  3. Body Weight
    8-10 kg
    Dose
    Thin layer to affected area
    Frequency
    1 to 2 times daily
    Tracking Notes
Avoid application to face, groin, or axillae (underarms) where skin is thin and absorption is increased.
  4. Body Weight
    11-15 kg
    Dose
    Thin layer to affected area
    Frequency
    1 to 2 times daily
    Tracking Notes
Limit therapy to the shortest effective duration, typically not exceeding two consecutive weeks in pediatric patients.
  5. Body Weight
    16-20 kg
    Dose
    Thin layer to affected area
    Frequency
    1 to 2 times daily
    Tracking Notes
Pediatric patients should be monitored closely by a doctor if treatment extends beyond a few days.
