Famciclovir

Famciclovir is an antiviral drug. It is a prodrug of penciclovir, active against Herpes simplex virus types 1 (HSV-1) and 2 (HSV-2), and Varicella-zoster virus (VZV). It works by interfering with viral DNA synthesis and replication.

Dosage by Body Weight

The usual adult dose ranges from 250 mg to 500 mg, taken two to three times daily depending on the specific viral infection and the patient's renal function. Treatment should be initiated at the first sign or symptom of infection. Dosage must be adjusted in patients with renal impairment.
