Diurapid

Diurapid is a brand name for Furosemide, a potent loop diuretic (water pill). It works by blocking the absorption of sodium, chloride, and water from the kidney tubules, which increases urine output. This reduction in body fluid helps decrease swelling in the limbs and abdomen, and reduces the workload on the heart, lowering blood pressure.

Dosage by Body Weight

Dosage must be individualized based on patient response and clinical condition. Adult doses typically start at 20 mg to 80 mg daily for edema, adjusted gradually. For hypertension, the usual dose is 40 mg twice daily. Take early in the day to prevent nocturnal urination. Regular monitoring of electrolytes, particularly potassium, is essential.
