Lipitor
Lipitor (atorvastatin) is a prescription medication belonging to the class of drugs known as statins (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors). It works by blocking the enzyme in the liver that produces cholesterol, thereby reducing 'bad' cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides while raising 'good' cholesterol (HDL).
Dosage by Body Weight
Lipitor is taken orally once daily, at any time of day, with or without food. The standard starting dose for adults is typically 10 mg to 20 mg once daily, adjusted based on cholesterol level targets and patient response. Avoid consuming large quantities of grapefruit juice while taking this medication.
