Clotrimazole Alone With A Barrier Cream Like Petroleum Jelly

This regimen involves applying a thin layer of Clotrimazole 1% antifungal cream directly to the skin to eradicate yeast (Candida) overgrowth, and then layering a thick barrier cream, such as pure petroleum jelly, over it. The barrier cream prevents urine, feces, and friction from further irritating the compromised skin barrier, allowing the skin to heal more rapidly.

Dosage by Body Weight

Cleanse the diaper area gently with warm water and pat completely dry. Apply a thin layer of Clotrimazole 1% cream to the affected areas 2 to 3 times daily. Over the clotrimazole (and during all other diaper changes), apply a thick, protective layer of petroleum jelly or zinc oxide ointment. Continue this regimen for up to 14 days, or for 2 to 3 days after the rash has completely cleared. If no improvement is seen in 3 to 5 days, consult a pediatrician.
