Auryxia

Auryxia (ferric citrate) is an oral phosphate binder and iron replacement agent. It binds to dietary phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract, forming an insoluble compound that is excreted in feces, thereby lowering serum phosphorus levels. The absorbed iron from the medication can also be utilized to treat iron deficiency anemia in patients with chronic kidney disease who are not on dialysis.

Dosage by Body Weight

The standard starting dose for adults is 2 tablets taken orally 3 times daily with meals (total of 6 tablets per day). The dosage should be titrated based on serum phosphorus or hemoglobin levels, with adjustments of 1 to 2 tablets per day at weekly intervals. The maximum daily dose is 12 tablets (equivalent to 12 grams of ferric citrate).
