Sucroferric Oxyhydroxide

Sucroferric oxyhydroxide is an iron-based phosphate binder used to manage hyperphosphatemia in adult patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. When taken with meals, it binds to dietary phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract, preventing its absorption and reducing phosphorus levels in the blood.

Dosage by Body Weight

The recommended starting dose is 1,500 mg (3 tablets) per day, divided as 1 tablet (500 mg) taken three times daily with meals. Dosage should be adjusted based on serum phosphorus levels, typically weekly in increments of 500 mg per day. Tablets must be chewed or crushed before swallowing; do not swallow them whole.
