Actiq

Actiq is a solid formulation of fentanyl citrate on a stick, designed to dissolve slowly in the mouth to facilitate oral transmucosal absorption. Fentanyl is a potent Schedule II opioid agonist. Actiq is subject to a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program due to risk of misuse, abuse, addiction, and overdose.

Dosage by Body Weight

Individually titrate to an effective dose that provides adequate analgesia and minimizes adverse reactions. The initial dose is 200 mcg. No more than two doses of Actiq should be used to treat any single breakthrough pain episode. Patients must be opioid-tolerant.

Management of breakthrough cancer pain in patients 16 years of age and older who are already receiving and who are tolerant to around-the-clock opioid therapy for their underlying persistent cancer pain.
