Actigall

Actigall (ursodiol) is a naturally occurring bile acid that helps reduce the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver and absorbed by the intestines. This action helps dissolve cholesterol-based gallstones and prevents them from forming in high-risk patients.

Dosage by Body Weight

The usual adult dosage for gallstone dissolution is 8 to 10 mg/kg/day, taken in 2 or 3 divided doses. For the prevention of gallstones during rapid weight loss, the standard dosage is 300 mg taken twice daily. Actigall should be taken with food.
