Xarelto
Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a prescription anticoagulant (blood thinner). It is a selective inhibitor of Factor Xa, an enzyme key to the blood clotting cascade. By blocking Factor Xa, Xarelto decreases circulating thrombin levels and reduces the risk of clot formation. In adults, it is commonly prescribed as a once- or twice-daily tablet depending on the indication.
Dosage by Body Weight
For adults, dosage varies widely based on indication: 2.5 mg twice daily (with or without food) for CAD/PAD risk reduction, 10 mg once daily (with or without food) for DVT/PE prophylaxis, or 15 mg to 20 mg once daily (must be taken with food) for treatment of active DVT/PE or non-valvular atrial fibrillation. Pediatric dosing is based on body weight and uses either tablets or granules for oral suspension. Always follow a healthcare provider's precise instructions.
