Virazole

Virazole is a synthetic nucleoside antiviral drug. It is administered as a continuous aerosol utilizing a specialized Small Particle Aerosol Generator (SPAG-2) unit. It is indicated only for severe, hospitalized cases of RSV in pediatric patients.

Dosage by Body Weight

The recommended treatment is a continuous aerosol administration of a 20 mg/mL solution of Virazole (6 grams reconstituted in 300 mL of sterile water) for 12 to 18 hours per day for 3 to 7 days. Dosing is determined by aerosol concentration and duration of exposure, not by patient body weight.
