Tobramycin Sulfate

Tobramycin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from Streptomyces tenebrarius. It is bactericidal and works by binding to the 30S and 50S ribosomal subunits of susceptible bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and disrupting cell membrane integrity. It is primarily used for severe Gram-negative infections and is administered via injection, inhalation, or topically to the eye.

Dosage by Body Weight

Dosage is highly individualized and must be adjusted based on body weight, severity of infection, renal function, and serum drug concentration monitoring. For systemic administration, standard pediatric dosing is typically 6 to 7.5 mg/kg/day divided into equal doses every 8 hours. Inhalation and ophthalmic formulations have localized dosing regimens.
