Somavert

Somavert (pegvisomant) is a growth hormone receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the effects of natural growth hormone (GH) on body tissues, thereby reducing the production of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), which is responsible for the symptoms and progression of acromegaly.

Dosage by Body Weight

A loading dose of 40 mg is administered subcutaneously under medical supervision. Following this, the standard maintenance dose is 10 mg injected subcutaneously once daily. Dosage adjustments can be made in 5 mg increments or decrements every 4 to 6 weeks based on serum IGF-I concentrations. The maximum maintenance dose should not exceed 30 mg per day.
