Ramelteon

Ramelteon is a selective melatonin receptor agonist that targets the MT1 and MT2 receptors in the suprachiasmatic nucleus, which regulates the natural sleep-wake cycle. Unlike traditional sedative-hypnotics, it does not bind to GABA receptors, which means it is not associated with abuse potential, tolerance, or physical dependence, and is not classified as a controlled substance.

Dosage by Body Weight

The recommended dose for adults is 8 mg taken orally once daily, within 30 minutes before going to bed. It should not be taken with or immediately after a high-fat meal, as this can delay its onset of action. It is not approved for pediatric use.
