Plasma-Lyte

Plasma-Lyte is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, isotonic intravenous solution designed to closely mimic the electrolyte profile and pH of human blood plasma. It contains sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, acetate, and gluconate. It helps restore fluid volume and physiological acid-base balance without causing hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis.

Dosage by Body Weight

Dosage must be individualized and titrated by a healthcare provider based on the patient's age, body weight, clinical condition, fluid balance, and laboratory determinations (electrolyte levels and acid-base status).

  1. Body Weight
    Below 5 kg
    Dose
Calculated individually (approx. 100 mL/kg/24h for maintenance)
    Frequency
    Continuous intravenous infusion
    Tracking Notes
Strict monitoring of electrolytes, fluid balance, and renal function is mandatory in neonates and infants.
  2. Body Weight
    5-7 kg
    Dose
Calculated individually (approx. 100 mL/kg/24h for maintenance)
    Frequency
    Continuous intravenous infusion
    Tracking Notes
Rate must be adjusted based on clinical assessment, hydration status, and urine output.
  3. Body Weight
    8-10 kg
    Dose
Calculated individually (approx. 100 mL/kg/24h for maintenance)
    Frequency
    Continuous intravenous infusion
    Tracking Notes
Ensure cardiorespiratory stability; monitor for signs of fluid overload.
  4. Body Weight
    11-15 kg
    Dose
1000 mL + 50 mL for each kg over 10 kg per 24 hours
    Frequency
    Continuous intravenous infusion
    Tracking Notes
Corresponds to approximately 40 to 52 mL/hour maintenance rate.
  5. Body Weight
    16-20 kg
    Dose
1000 mL + 50 mL for each kg over 10 kg per 24 hours
    Frequency
    Continuous intravenous infusion
    Tracking Notes
Corresponds to approximately 52 to 62 mL/hour maintenance rate. Adjust based on specific metabolic needs.
