Lomofen

Lomofen is an antidiarrheal combination medication containing Diphenoxylate and Atropine. Diphenoxylate is an opioid derivative that works by slowing down gut motility, which decreases the frequency of bowel movements. Atropine, an anticholinergic, is present in a tiny, sub-therapeutic dose to prevent abuse and deliberate overdose of the diphenoxylate component.

Dosage by Body Weight

For adults, the usual initial dose is 2 tablets taken 3 to 4 times daily. Once diarrhea is controlled, the dosage should be reduced to a maintenance dose (e.g., 2 tablets daily) as recommended by a doctor. This medication is contraindicated in children under 2 years of age and generally not recommended for pediatric use due to the risk of respiratory depression and atropine toxicity.
