Lariago

Lariago contains Chloroquine, an antiparasitic and anti-inflammatory medication. It works by increasing the pH inside the parasite's acid vesicles, disrupting its growth and survival. Due to its narrow safety margin, precise dosing is critical to avoid severe toxicity.

Dosage by Body Weight

Dosing is highly individualized and must be based strictly on body weight (typically calculated as 25 mg/kg of chloroquine base administered over 3 days for malaria treatment). To minimize stomach upset, it should always be taken with food or milk.

  1. Body Weight
    Below 5 kg
    Dose
Requires precise clinical calculation (approx. 10 mg/kg base initially)
    Frequency
    Under strict pediatric supervision
    Tracking Notes
High risk of toxicity in infants. Do not self-administer.
  2. Body Weight
    5-7 kg
    Dose
50 mg to 70 mg base initial dose, then 25 mg to 35 mg base
    Frequency
    At 0, 6, 24, and 48 hours
    Tracking Notes
Preferably administered as oral suspension (50 mg base per 5 ml) for accurate dosing.
  3. Body Weight
    8-10 kg
    Dose
80 mg to 100 mg base initial dose, then 40 mg to 50 mg base
    Frequency
    At 0, 6, 24, and 48 hours
    Tracking Notes
Corresponds to approximately 8 to 10 ml of standard syrup for the first dose.
  4. Body Weight
    11-15 kg
    Dose
110 mg to 150 mg base initial dose, then 55 mg to 75 mg base
    Frequency
    At 0, 6, 24, and 48 hours
    Tracking Notes
Monitor closely for side effects like nausea, vomiting, or dizziness.
  5. Body Weight
    16-20 kg
    Dose
160 mg to 200 mg base initial dose, then 80 mg to 100 mg base

    Tracking Notes
A fraction of a tablet may be used if suspension is unavailable, provided it can be split accurately.
