Imipenem and Cilastatin

Imipenem and Cilastatin is a combination antibiotic. Imipenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Cilastatin is a renal dehydropeptidase inhibitor that prevents the breakdown of imipenem in the kidneys, thereby maintaining therapeutic levels of the antibiotic in the body.

Dosage by Body Weight

Typically administered via intravenous (IV) infusion or intramuscular (IM) injection. The dosage depends on the severity of the infection, susceptibility of the causative organism, and the patient's renal function and body weight. Pediatric doses are calculated based on mg/kg of body weight.
