Household Fan

An electric appliance used to create airflow. In clinical and home-care settings, a gentle breeze directed across the face can significantly reduce the sensation of breathlessness (dyspnea). It also assists in cooling individuals suffering from heat-related illness or high fever by promoting convection and sweat evaporation.

Dosage by Body Weight

Position the fan approximately 1 to 2 meters (3 to 6 feet) away from the person, directing the airflow toward the face or upper body. Adjust speed to comfort. Discontinue immediately if shivering occurs, as shivering increases core body temperature.

  1. Body Weight
    Below 5 kg
    Dose
    Low speed, indirect airflow only
    Frequency
    As needed for comfort
    Tracking Notes
Monitor body temperature closely. Newborns and young infants have poor thermoregulation and can easily become hypothermic. Avoid directing continuous airflow directly at a neonate.
  2. Body Weight
    5-7 kg
    Dose
    Low speed, indirect airflow
    Frequency
    As needed for cooling
    Tracking Notes
Ensure the infant is dressed appropriately and does not begin shivering.
  3. Body Weight
    8-10 kg
    Dose
Low to medium speed, oscillating preferred
    Frequency
    As needed
    Tracking Notes
Keep fan unit, blades, and electrical cords strictly out of the child's reach.
  4. Body Weight
    11-15 kg
    Dose
    Medium speed, oscillating or direct
    Frequency
    As needed
    Tracking Notes
Ensure safety grilles are securely fastened to prevent fingers from entering the blades.
  5. Body Weight
    16-20 kg
    Dose
Medium to high speed as tolerated
    Frequency
    As needed
    Tracking Notes
Adjust speed and proximity based on the child's subjective comfort and physical response.
