Furoxone

Furoxone (furazolidone) is a synthetic nitrofuran-derivative antibacterial and antiprotozoal agent. It works by interfering with bacterial enzyme systems, disrupting DNA and protein synthesis in susceptible pathogens. It is primarily used to treat infectious diarrhea and giardiasis.

Dosage by Body Weight

Take orally as directed by a physician. Usually administered 4 times daily. Avoid alcohol, MAO inhibitors, and foods rich in tyramine (like aged cheese and red wine) while taking this medication to prevent severe hypertensive reactions.
