Eskalith

Eskalith (lithium carbonate) is an antimanic agent indicated in the treatment of manic episodes of manic-depressive illness. Maintenance therapy prevents or diminishes the intensity of subsequent episodes in those manic-depressive patients with a history of mania.

Dosage by Body Weight

Dosage must be individualized according to serum lithium levels and clinical response. For acute mania, the typical dose is 1,800 mg/day divided into 3 or 4 doses. For maintenance therapy, the typical dose is 900 mg to 1,200 mg/day divided into 3 or 4 doses. Continuous monitoring of serum lithium concentrations is mandatory.
