Dulcolax

Dulcolax is a stimulant laxative containing bisacodyl. It works by directly stimulating the nerves in the colon to increase peristalsis (bowel movements). Oral tablets typically produce results in 6 to 12 hours, while rectal suppositories work within 15 to 60 minutes.

Dosage by Body Weight

Adults and children 12 years and older: 1 to 3 tablets (5 to 15 mg) daily, or 1 rectal suppository (10 mg) daily. Children 6 to 12 years: 1 tablet (5 mg) daily, or 1/2 rectal suppository (5 mg) daily. Tablets must be swallowed whole; do not crush, chew, or take within 1 hour of antacids, dairy products, or milk. Do not use for more than 7 consecutive days without consulting a doctor.
