NAC breaks disulfide bonds in mucus, making it thinner. It also restores glutathione levels in the liver during paracetamol poisoning.

Dosage by Body Weight

Mucolytic dose: 200 mg 2-3 times daily for children >6 years. Overdose protocols follow specific nomograms (Rumack-Matthew).
